How do you keep your security organized and uniform?

It has become increasingly common to work with a variety of cloud applications. Does one not do exactly what you want? Then maybe the other one does. This choice can have problematic consequences in at least two closely related areas: security and manageability. These benefit from uniformity and overview.

Unified security is often underestimated. What sometimes happens in practice is that organizations purchase as a service solutions from different vendors. This can be because of the rush, for example when working from home overwhelmed almost everyone. It can also be because of the cost, that one package is chosen instead of another. This creates a motley collection of software that should work together. But that becomes difficult when different suppliers are involved, each with their own specific user interface.

    Potential blind spots
The individual solutions have been selected for their functionality. This way you will also save money. These applications and services seem to cover your needs, but do they cover your complete security? There should be no blind spots when it comes to security, because a breach can happen at any time. Cloud and SaaS solutions in particular are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, precisely because the cloud is so popular and trusted.

Not only maintaining the technical overview is important, because don't overlook the human aspect either. When you purchase solutions from different vendors, you also get different log-ins and dashboards. The risk is that you do not keep an eye on everything. Ironically, this is certainly the case when there are no security problems. Is everything going well with, say, endpoint security? Then chances are that after a while you will forget about your manual check rounds. An intuitive management console is often much more convenient than teaching yourself a routine. That is, you have one dashboard on which you can gain insight into the ins and outs of your security solution(s).

    Costs and compliance
And then there's the cost issue. As mentioned, at first glance you can shop around economically if you purchase solutions from different vendors. However, it is often forgotten that the services also need to be linked up to save you a lot of manual work. The links can actually run into costs. This creates another kind of blind spot: losing an overview of what you are spending in total financial terms. If you do not have an intuitive management console, this can be even more difficult.

Finally, the compliance must be in order. Because of the increase in cyber threats, data regulations have also become much more extensive. While most solutions conform to the AVG (or internationally: the GDPR), there are also additional, sometimes regional regulations. These may not be covered by specific solutions. It is often difficult for users to gain insight into such gaps. The risk then arises that your security is not fully compliant and that in turn can lead to additional costs, for example in the form of a fine.

    Complete solution, complete overview
So security benefits from uniformity. But perhaps you are now thinking: if I choose one supplier, will I get all the functionalities I need? Shouldn't I still look for one or more additional suppliers? This is an issue that security vendor SonicWall has thought about a lot. They came to this conclusion: if the overview and the management should be all-encompassing, then the same should apply to the functionalities and to the number of different AV engines, in combination with sandboxing.

SonicWall's security solutions can therefore be easily linked and centrally viewed and managed. In addition, they offer a wide range of solutions: from firewalls to Secure Mobile Access. SonicWall Capture Labs has a unique and patented Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection (RTDMI), which automatically inspects and recognizes potential cyber threats and then intercepts them. This allows you to deal with one specialized supplier for your entire security. This allows you and the software to maintain an overview of your security, compliance and total cost of ownership (TCO).
